Emotional Awareness

Research has shown that Children who understand and express emotions more easily have better empathetic and social skills, which can help to build relationships. They even do better academically. Even before children enter school, they are taught which emotions are appropriate to express and how they should express them.

Developing emotional intelligence in early childhood enables a child to manage emotions effectively and avoid being derailed, for example, by a flash of anger. Children with higher emotional intelligence are better able to pay attention, are more engaged in school, have more positive relationships, and are more empathic.

Emotional awareness, or the ability to understand feelings, will help one succeed when communicating with other people. If a child is emotionally aware, he or she will communicate better. You will notice the emotions of other people, and how the way they are feeling influences the way they communicate.
